The V Foundation’s “Jimmy V Celebrity Golf Classic” Returns to Triangle  

New Events Highlight Weekend Activities

Cary, N.C.—The V Foundation for Cancer Research, one of the nation’s leading cancer research fundraising organizations, is pleased to announce the return of the Jimmy V Celebrity Golf Classic to the Triangle, August 12-16^th, 2009.  As part of the return, The V Foundation will also introduce several new events to coincide with the annual golf tournament and black tie gala, including a V Wine & Spirits Celebration, a concert, and a cancer symposium at the new Raleigh Convention Center.  The move reflects The V Foundation’s desire and commitment to have a large presence with this signature event in The V Foundation’s home town.

“We felt it was important to return The Classic to the Triangle where it started,” stated Nick Valvano, CEO of The V Foundation. “We are excited to bring The Classic home to Raleigh’s revitalized downtown utilizing the new Raleigh Convention Center, Marriott City Center, and Lonnie Poole Golf Course on the Centennial Campus at NC State.”   

One of the highlights of the new model for The Classic will be a scientific cancer research symposium. Respected doctors from across the field of cancer research will be on hand to speak about developments in the search for a cure. In addition, the symposium will host a variety of exhibits and services that represent the needs of those touched by cancer in a “hands-on” display open to the public at no charge.

“We realize that not everyone that wants to help The V Foundation is a golfer. For this reason, we felt it was important to create other activities that not only help us raise significant dollars for cancer research, but that will also help educate the community about the efforts we are making to fight this disease,” stated Valvano.

Proceeds from the new events will fund local cancer research efforts through The V Foundation. All events will be open to the public with details to be announced in the coming weeks.
